Key Practice Areas

Tania’s practice is in the fields of civil and commercial litigation, administrative and public law and tax law. She regularly acts for and advises, amongst others, national and international financial institutions, multinational and local corporations, property developers and landholding companies, in a variety of cases including commercial and contractual disputes, civil and commercial fraud and tax disputes with the Inland Revenue Board. Tania also has experience handling company and shareholder disputes, defamation claims, corporate and personal insolvency proceedings, regulatory proceedings before the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, the statutory body established to regulate the accountancy profession in Malaysia, as well as contentious probate disputes.

Tania has a LL.B (First Class Honours) from the University of Reading and is a Barrister-at-Law of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple. She has been an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya since 2015.

Tania is a co-author of Veerinder on Taxation (6th Edition) (2022) and Veerinder on Taxation (5th Edition) (2019), and is a regular contributor to the Tax Guardian.

Market Leading Experience
  • Acted as counsel for a leading insurance company in Hong Kong in the High Court and the Court of Appeal over a reinsurance dispute with a Malaysian reinsurer.
  • Acted as counsel for a financial institution in Hong Kong in the High Court against guarantors in Malaysia.
  • Acted as counsel for a multinational construction company in respect of disputes against a leading property developer in Malaysia and other sub-contractors in Malaysia.
  • Acted as co-counsel for a group of land-holding Malaysian companies in the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court in respect of a commercial fraud dispute arising out of the sale of a 3000-acre piece of land in Ijok, Selangor, worth over RM1B, and injuncting assets of approximately RM500M.
  • Acted as co-counsel for a group of land-holding Malaysian companies in the High Court and the Court of Appeal in respect of a commercial dispute with a public listed company arising out of the sale of a 1000-acre piece of land in Sepang, Selangor. The project in question had a gross development value of RM12B.
  • Acted as co-counsel in the High Court in a dispute arising out of the oppression of minority shareholders.
  • Acted as co-counsel for a landowner in the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court against, amongst others, the Selangor State Authority in respect of disputes arising out of the fraudulent transfer of a piece of land.
  • Acted as co-counsel for a prominent Malaysian political leader in the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court in respect of disputes arising out of the sale of a land worth RM280M.
  • Acted as co-counsel for the Malaysian Institute of Accountants before the Disciplinary Committee of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, the High Court and the Court of Appeal in the prosecution of two (2) leading Accounting Firms in Malaysia in respect of their audits of 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
  • Acted as counsel and co-counsel for taxpayers against the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia in various disputes before the Special Commissioners of Income Tax, the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court.
