She acts in complex, high-value cross-border disputes across maritime and commercial sectors, with particular experience in fraud and asset recovery matters involving dissipation of assets across jurisdictions. Her maritime practice includes vessel arrests, cargo and charterparty disputes, oil pollution claims, cargo claims, and other complex shipping-related enforcement matters.
Dhanyaa has an active arbitration practice, where she regularly advises on interim relief in support of arbitral proceedings and on the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards under Malaysian law and the New York Convention.
She also has significant experience in employment and regulatory disputes, including industrial relations disputes and trade union matters. She regularly leads internal investigations involving allegations of fraud and corruption and advises on workplace compliance issues, including disciplinary strategy and risk mitigation.
Her advisory work extends to corporate and commercial matters, including business transfers, share acquisitions, employment structuring, and issues relating to corporate governance, board authority and shareholder rights.

Shipping & Maritime
- Represented maritime claimants in numerous admiralty proceedings involving the arrest of vessels as security for claims in the Malaysian courts and foreign arbitrations, including applications for omnibus orders, judicial sale of vessels, and the determination of priorities and payment out of sale proceeds.
- Represented shipowners in applications to set aside vessel arrest orders arising from a broad range of maritime claims.
- Acted in a domestic arbitration in respect of breach of a ship management agreement and bareboat charter involving total claims in excess of RM100 million.
- Acted for mortgagees in the enforcement of ship mortgages and recovery proceedings against vessels.
- Represented a shipowner in an in rem claim commenced by charterers arising from the operation of a casino business on board a vessel in international waters.
- Acted in an in rem claim concerning the delivery of approximately 1 million barrels of crude oil, with the cargo valued in excess of US$76 million.
- Successfully obtained a rare ex parte order under Section 33 of the Langkawi International Yacht Registry Act 2003 restraining the Director General of Marine from dealing with a yacht.
- Advised an oil and gas exploration company on the merits of a potential demurrage claim exceeding US$500,000.
- Advised a P&I Club on issues of vessel liability under Malaysian law in connection with a potential oil pollution claim.
- Advised shipowners, charterers and cargo interests on numerous complex disputes involving charterparties, bills of lading, cargo claims and related maritime issues.
- Advised contractors operating within the Malaysia–Thailand Joint Development Area on the application of Malaysian law to offshore operations and contractual arrangements.
General Civil & Commercial Litigation and International and Domestic Arbitration
- Acted in one of Malaysia’s largest fraud and cross-border asset recovery actions involving multiple defendants and the dissipation of embezzled funds across jurisdictions, including obtaining urgent injunctive interim relief.
- Successfully obtained a freezing injunction in aid of arbitration arising from alleged breaches of a crude oil supply agreement involving claims exceeding USD100 million.
- Acted for a subcontractor of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) in a domestic arbitration concerning a dispute in excess of RM10 million arising from the procurement and installation of an offshore compressor for upstream oil production operations.
- Acted for an Australian public listed company in a claim in excess of RM7 million arising from an alleged breach of a share sale agreement with a Malaysian counterparty.
- Represented the Malaysian Bar in resisting an application under Section 83 of the Legal Profession Act 1976 seeking leave of court to employ a restricted category of personnel in a legal practice.
- Advised on the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Malaysia under the Arbitration Act 2005 and the New York Convention, including recognition and execution strategy.
- Advised on sovereign immunity issues in Malaysia, including whether a foreign sovereign has defences in Malaysia against attempts by a creditor seeking execution on sovereign-issued bonds that contain a waiver of immunity for attachment / execution.
- Advised on validity of resolutions passed at an extraordinary general meeting, validity of appointments of directors during board of directors’ meeting and whether shareholders can decrease the number of directors of a company unilaterally.
- Advised and drafted cause papers in respect of a springboard injunction against former employees and the removal of a director on short notice.
- Advised on development rights in respect of land subject to ongoing appellate proceedings.
- Advised on whether companies who had connections with sanctioned individuals in the United Kingdom were subject to any corresponding Malaysian sanctions under the Labuan Financial Services Authority, Strategic Trade Act 2010 and Central Bank Act
2009, that may prohibit receipt of funds into a Malaysian bank account.
- Advised a Dutch construction and engineering company on breach of contract claims relating to offshore accommodation module fabrication and sale agreements.
Employment & Industrial Relations
- Acted as counsel in a broad range of employment disputes involving claims for reinstatement arising from dismissals for misconduct, poor performance and retrenchment exercises.
- Advised and represented employers in industrial relations and trade union disputes, including applications for trade union recognition and collective bargaining negotiations.
- Advised on, drafted and implemented employment termination and disciplinary documentation, including show cause letters, warning letters, dismissal letters, redundancy letters and deeds of release.
- Advised clients on domestic and cross-border business transfers and share acquisitions, including employment structuring, workforce integration, due diligence and the alignment of employment policies and contractual documentation.
- Provided strategic advisory and compliance guidance to corporate clients on Malaysian employment law, including risk management and human resource governance frameworks.
- Drafted and reviewed employment contracts, employee handbooks and HR policies to ensure compliance with Malaysian labour legislation and best practice standards.
- Led on-site investigation into suspected fraud/corruption allegations against a senior manager who misappropriated approximately RM1 million from a company, including cooperation with the relevant enforcement authorities.
- Led internal investigation into allegations of bribery and kickbacks involving senior executives and vendors, and advised on disciplinary strategy, risk mitigation and employee exits with minimal legal and reputational exposure.
- Conducted numerous internal and remote investigations into employee misconduct, including sexual harassment, toxic workplace allegations, and behavioural issues, and advised on appropriate remedial and disciplinary action.
